The March Consistency Check

· 6 min read

As Q1 comes to an end, March is a good moment to pause and ask three simple questions.

What is now predictable in your centre?

Look back over the last four weeks.

Which sessions are consistently busy? Which evenings have developed a strong community feel? Which events bring people back week after week?

If something has happened three or four weeks in a row, it probably isn't luck.

It's a pattern. And patterns are worth protecting.

Where do people linger?

Belonging often appears in the moments between the climbs.

Notice where climbers stop to talk. Which sessions run slightly over time. Where people sit after they've finished climbing.

Key insight

These small moments often tell you more than attendance numbers.

What quietly faded after January?

January is full of ideas and experiments.

Some stick. Some don't.

March is a useful time to notice which initiatives kept going and which ones lost momentum.

This isn't failure. It's information.

It tells you where your real community energy sits.

Jez's March Top Tip

A strategic note from Jez

March is a good time to look for rhythm.

Which sessions naturally bring people together? Which events have become part of the weekly routine?

Rather than adding more initiatives, focus on strengthening the ones that already work.

Consistency grows fastest when you support what's already happening.

Andy's March Top Tip

A financial perspective from Andy

For many businesses, March also marks the end of the financial year.

It's easy to focus on totals, but patterns often tell a clearer story.

Are memberships stabilising? Are visits becoming more regular week to week?

It's also a good time to look ahead.

If profits are higher than last year, it may be worth thinking about whether there are investments you were planning to make anyway.

For example, if you were considering replacing mats, upgrading equipment or investing back into the centre, doing so before the end of the financial year can help reduce your tax bill.

It doesn't mean spending for the sake of it. It means being intentional with decisions you were already planning to make.

It's always worth speaking to your accountant to understand what makes sense for your situation.

Financial insight

Consistency in March is often a positive signal for the months ahead.

Dave's March Top Tip

A marketing perspective from Dave

When habits begin to form, marketing becomes simpler.

Instead of constantly chasing attention, you can focus on reinforcing what already works.

  • Highlight the sessions people return to
  • Share the moments that bring climbers together
Marketing works best when it reflects real activity.
Rob

Rob's March Top Tip

A people perspective from Rob

Habits grow around familiarity.

When climbers see the same welcoming faces each week, it strengthens their sense of belonging.

Looking after your team helps those habits develop naturally.

One small action before Q2

Before the next quarter begins, choose one moment in your centre that consistently brings people together.

It could be a social climb night. A coaching session. A regular group meet-up.

Instead of creating something new, ask:

How can we make this easier to join?

Often the biggest improvements come from strengthening what already works.

March is where patterns appear

January brings energy.

February reveals belonging.

March shows where habits have started to form.

And those habits are often the quiet foundations that make Q2 feel much more stable.

Want a calm Q1 sense-check?

If you'd like to talk through what you're seeing in your centre as Q1 comes to a close, Jez is always happy to chat. No pitch. Just a chance to step back and look at what's working.

And if you'd like a second opinion on how those moments are being communicated, Sam is always happy to help from a marketing perspective.

Coming next

In April, we'll look at how centres build momentum again as spring arrives, and how small operational tweaks can make a big difference as Q2 gets underway.
